Sometime a tooth becomes non vital, this can be for a number of reasons e.g. trauma, badly decayed or a fracture in the tooth. The nerve in the tooth starts to die and can often cause a abscess.

To save the tooth root canal therapy is required.  The nerve tissue will be removed from the root canals. The canals are then thoroughly cleaned and dis-infected and filled prior to tooth restorations.  As there is now no blood supply to the tooth it is more susceptible to breaking and therefore a crown is the treatment of choice.
